Digital Photographer launches a bigger, better, faster website to meet the needs of modern photographers

Our sister magazine Digital Photographer is celebrating the exciting new launch of its website – DPhotographer.co.uk. The brand new design and functionality promises to bring users a faster, easier and more interactive experience, enabling them to showcase their photographs to the world.

The gallery-based website is super speedy thanks to an all-new image database developed in-house at Imagine Publishing. Users can now make the most of being able to upload bigger images up to 2592 x 2952 in size. All users need to do is register to create their own free gallery, which is then viewed on the website via the Galleria photo browser.

Mat Toor, Head of Digital at Imagine Publishing said, “With over two million lines of code and one million pieces of meta data, the new Digital Photographer site is bigger, better and faster than it was before. It’s practically bionic!’”

Visitors to the site can make the most of the slideshow and full screen viewing options and share their images with the world via the instant Facebook and Twitter update buttons. DPhotographer.co.uk also collects and displays meta data, including image thumbnails, so that images can be shared across social network sites like Facebook, Twitter and Flickr in an instant.

DPhotographer.co.uk goes live with over 170,000 images in its database uploaded from over 15,900 personal galleries. A newly enchanced search function allows users looking for photographic inspiration to find tagged images in no time, and all photographs are also categorised according to popular genres.

The tutorial section has grown too, with an abundance of handy Photoshop tips and tricks to help edit images like a pro. It’s constantly updated so visitors can learn something new every week.

Digital Photographer Editor, Rosie Tanner said, “This new website is a huge step forward in the way fans of Digital Photographer can share their photographs with their social network of friends. There’s a real buzz about this new site already and I can’t wait to see how it grows from here.”

Debbi Allen, Editor in Chief, said, “The whole team has been working hard over the past few months to create a website that users will love. From bigger images and full screen slideshows to instant social networking links, your DPhotographer.co.uk profile page can now be the central hub for all your online photo activity. Beware though – this new website is highly addictive!”

Check out the brand new website and all its amazing new features at www.dphotographer.co.uk. Sign up for your free gallery and start sharing your photographs today!

High quality prosumer photography magazine once again shows circulation growth in tougth market conditions

Digital Photographer magazine is celebrating circulation growth despite tough market conditions for 2010. The Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC), the body, which audits magazine circulations, has announced Digital Photographer’s average circulation now stands at an average of 20,645 per issue.

The leading photographic title from Imagine Publishing has managed to maintain strong and steady sales, with a circulation increase of 2.8% for its print sales – one of only two magazines to show a rise in ABC – against an overall market drop of 4%. This figure does not yet include sales of the Digital Photographer digital editions for the iPad, predicted to be strong since their launch in early 2010.

Editor Rosie Tanner commented, “We’d like to thank our readers for their continued loyalty and support. There’s no doubt it has been a challenging year on the newsstand, with photography being an extremely saturated market to be part of, but the latest ABC figures prove Digital Photographer remains strong and well received. We’re very proud of that.”

As well as the strong circulation figures, the Digital Photographer brand looks set for further success this year, with the growing popularity of its digital versions, an exciting website redesign and huge popularity of companion bookazines and eMags.

“Photography enthusiasts have never had it so good, with such a wide range of resources available to them to help improve their skills. Digital Photographer offers readers fantastic features, tutorials and advice, not to mention a free CD packed with Photoshop video tutorials every issue,” said Tanner.

Digital Photographer magazine launches Digital Photographer of the Year Awards, with Samsung NX10 and EX1 cameras up for grabs

The hugely popular Digital Photographer of the Year Awards returns for 2010 – this time with backing from photography giant, Samsung

Imagine Publishing and Samsung are joining forces to launch the fourth annual Digital Photography of the Year awards, with better prizes and categories than ever before. Fresh from celebrating over one million copy sales earlier this year, Digital Photographer magazine anticipates record a number of submissions for the competition in 2010, with the overall winner receiving a Samsung NX10, three lenses and a flashgun kit. Six category winners will each receive a Samsung EX1 camera.

Rosie Tanner, Editor of Digital Photographer, is brimming with expectation for DPOTY ’10: “The DPOTY awards offer digital photographers a fantastic platform to showcase their work across a wide range of categories. It’s an amazing opportunity for fresh talent to emerge and we can’t wait to celebrate new and undiscovered digital photographers. The fact that such a prestigious camera company like Samsung is supporting the awards is a huge compliment. Its support means the competition and prizes will be better than ever before.”

Since its launch back in 2007, the DPOTY awards has seen year-on-year success and is now widely recognised by the photography industry as one of the top photographic competitions of its kind. The judging panel for the 2010 awards features some of the country’s top photographic professionals including big names such as Guardian Picture Editor, Eamonn McCabe and pro photographer, William Cheung FRPS.

The call for entries opens on the 15 July, which coincides with the on-sale date of Digital Photographer issue 98. In contrast to previous years, the format of the awards for 2010 will see a brand new competition category launched in each issue of the magazine. There will be six photographic categories in total – each designed to push the creativity of photographers. The categories are:

The Big Picture – Landscapes

Strike a Pose – Portraits

Wild at Heart – Wildlife/nature

Location, Location – Travel

Capture the Action – Motion/action

Get Creative – Creative/image editing/HDR

Rosie Tanner added, “The categories we’ve picked this year are reflective of the creative capabilities of Samsung’s fantastic NX10 and EX1 cameras. There is definitely a category to suit every photographic taste, so we look forward to seeing a broad range of subject matter.”

Steve Mitchell, General Manager Marketing, Samsung Digital Imaging said: “Samsung is proud to be part of Digital Photographer of the Year 2010. We have a longstanding relationship with Digital Photographer magazine and we are particularly pleased to have been chosen by the team to be the main sponsor of DPOTY.

The Digital Photographer of the Year competition showcases some of the most exciting photographs every year and with the creative possibilities offered by the Samsung camera range it is a perfect partnership which will inspire any photographer. We are looking forward to judging and awarding the very best photography in this year’s competition.”

For all the details on how to enter, look out for Digital Photographer issue 98 on sale 15 July 2010 (cover below) or head online to www.DPhotographer.co.uk.

Our sister magazine Digital Photographer has just launched a brand new online photography competition to help you practice your photography skills.

Each month, a new photography challenge will be set on the Digital Photographer forum and photographers will be given four
weeks to shoot and upload their images. At the end of the four weeks, all images will be judged by the Digital Photographer team and the winning photo will win a year’s membership to online photo
agency Clownfishphoto.
