We’ve got a big feature on ArtRage 3 coming up in issue 2 of the magazine, on sale 31st December 2009. I took a look at the history and development of the program and a bunch of the lovely people from the ArtRage Gallery were kind enough to share their amazing artwork while artist Simon Dominic was treated to an advanced copy of Studio Pro to demonstrate all its new features. Watercolour! The Gloop brush! Stickers! It’s a great iteration of the program, with plenty of updates to make your workflow easier and more intuitive if you’re used to Painter and Photoshop. Its real media emulation is fantastic, as you’ll see from Simon’s classic fantasy image created entirely in ArtRage 3.

If you’ve never had a look at the program before then you’re really missing out. Why not treat yourself to an early Christmas present from Ambient Design – a few of our regular forum visitors have done so already and they’ll tell you just how awesome it is!

It does indeed look great. I look forward to seeing the review in issue two. I upgraded from 2.5 to Artrage 3 studio pro last night and had some fun playing around with it. I’m looking forward to a couple of days off where I can test it out properly.

i tried out the demo for ArtRage 3…. i love the interface… it’s refreshingly new and intuitive… However, as someone who uses Corel Painter 11 i don’t feel ArtRage 3 offers anything substantially new… that being said it could be an excellent option for those who don’t own Painter… as it’s cheaper and what it does it does really well… It would definitely be an application that i would watch out for in the future… i really love the interface… but i am so used to Painter!

April… just another quick comment. Digital Artist magazine gets a very quick mention at the very end of the latest Ninja Mountain episode (the ArtRage special… episode 45).

The new art rage totally rocks. I love the watercolor and oil and the felt tip is the only way to draw. Kudos to the team for such great work and I think it’s a reasonable price for all you get. I love It!

I had the pleasure and privilege of being on the beta testing team for this amazing product. Something that has always stood out to me about the Ambient Design team is their responsive rapport with their audience. These guys are down to earth and very creative when it comes to designing an experience that literally has me forgetting I am working on a computer from time to time. The software is not in my way, it provides the way. I would recommend this version in particular to anyone interested in creating imagery on the computer, from preschoolers to grandmas and beginners to seasoned professionals.

I am a long time Painter user (since version 3) but left that app for ArtRage. Still, sometimes, I return to Painter. But about 98% of the time it’s ArtRage. It’s a more natural and intuitive feeling to all tools and medium in AR.

ArtRage 3 is a milestone in digital painting software history. Perfect watercolour and sticker features it has.
